About Webyard
A calmer place to host your website
The web hosting industry is one of the most saturated industries in the world.
So what made us take on such a challenge?
That was the question we had to answer before we could move forward with building a web hosting brand.
To explain the underlying reasons and circumstances that led to this idea, we need to go back to the very beginning.
Before the idea of starting a web hosting company came along, there were several smaller online application projects. Each one needed web hosting. As simple as choosing a web host may seem, it turned out to be a never-ending search.
Although we tried to make a rational decision when choosing a web hosting company, we found that our choices were shaped either by paid promotional blog posts with inaccurate information, search ads, and fake user reviews, or, in the worst cases, by misleading promises from dishonest hosting providers.
A series of poor decisions when choosing hosting providers led us to search for a hosting company that could offer a calmer place to host our websites. A place where things do not change overnight; a place where prices are clear upfront; a place without hidden limitations; a place without endless promotions that make you feel bad when you later discover that the service you paid for at full price is now being offered at half the price; a place that supports modern technologies and ease of use, instead of holding back progress by preserving old ways of doing things. The list goes on...
In the end, our search came up empty.
It may seem that our criteria were too high, or that we were simply too demanding. But we believe the reason none of the providers we worked with met our expectations goes deeper than the visible problems that damage the user experience. It is tied to the business philosophy behind each company, or each group of brands.
If we look at the web hosting industry from a wider perspective, it becomes clear that hosting companies tend to consolidate into larger clusters. Although this may look like a natural development, it is mostly driven by corporate greed and the desire for control. The result is a large number of public-facing brands, each telling customers a different story while ultimately following the same underlying agenda.
From the user’s perspective, this kind of behind-the-scenes mechanism creates an impression that makes us question our own logic and judgment, pushing us toward the conclusion that no honest hosting company exists.
Although this picture may not be true in every single case, the market behavior of large hosting groups and the destruction of small independent brands in the process make it real.
For us, this was an injustice. That is why we started Webyard: we want to set things right and build the kind of home we had been missing ourselves; a calmer place for all the customers frustrated with the current state of the web hosting industry.
The obvious question that follows is: how can we, as a small company, endure?
The honest answer is: we can’t know for sure, but we can do everything in our power to stay in business and bring value to the market.
