Connecting a domain to your hosting

Supported configurations

This guide assumes that you already have a domain registered somewhere else.

There are two ways you can configure your external domain:

  • By pointing your domain to our DNS servers
  • By changing appropriate DNS records

By pointing your domain to our DNS servers

You can safely do this change only if you are not already using your domain for a website or to receive emails. If you already use your domain and just change DNS servers, your website, emails, and any other services associated with that domain name will stop working.
Once you make sure there are no active services associated with the domain name, you can point your domain to the following DNS server addresses:

ns1.webyard-network.com
ns2.webyard-network.com
ns3.webyard-network.com
ns4.webyard-network.com

After you make the change, please allow at least 24 hours for changes to take effect.

By changing appropriate DNS records

If your domain already has a configured DNS zone, and it is connected to some services, it can be risky to do a name server change, so the safer way in that case is to point appropriate records in the existing DNS zone to the IP address that has been assigned to your hosting account.

What specific records you need to change depends on what services you plan to host with us.

Below, we will go through the two most common scenarios:

  • You already have emails configured (for example, you use Google Workspace or Microsoft 365), and you want to host only the website on Webyard
  • You already host your website somewhere else, and you want to host only email addresses on Webyard
For the first option, you will need to first access your provider's DNS administration panel and point the domain's A record to the appropriate IP address.

Also, because of the messages that might be sent from our server (for example, messages from your website), you will need to make sure that the domain's SPF policy allows the “A” mechanism or just add ip4:[your-ip-address] inside the SPF policy.

For the second option, you will need to modify (or create if it doesn't exist) the domain's MX record so it points to our server. We recommend you do this by pointing the MX record to the subdomain “mail.example.com” (replace example.com with your domain) and then creating/modifying the A record for the subdomain “mail.example.com” so it points to our server’s IP address.
